As we bid farewell to the dedicated K-9 officers, Recchi and Five, we take a moment to reflect on their remarkable years of service to the Camden County Sheriff’s Office and the entire community.

K-9 Recchi served the Camden County Sheriff’s Office and the residents of Camden County with distinction from January 2nd, 2015 until his retirement effective February 1st, 2024. Recchi’s regular tour of duty was in the patrol division.

Recchi began his narcotics detection training with the New Jersey State Police K9 Academy from March 2015 until June 2015 when he started his narcotics detection career. In September of 2016, Recchi went back to school and began his patrol training with the John Sonny Burk K9 Academy until December of that same year.

Recchi is a cross trained Belgian Malinois that could perform patrol functions, narcotic searches, evidence recovery and tracking duties. He was deployed 420 times assisting the Camden County Sheriff’s Office, local municipalities within Camden County, the surrounding counties as well as local, state and federal agencies including multijurisdictional Task Forces. He performed 164 narcotics searches which lead to the arrest of numerous offenders, along with the seizure of cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, ecstasy, crack, marijuana and large amounts of US currency that was seized for forfeiture. He was responsible for 45 criminal arrests of offenders, 169 perimeter warrant service assists, 32 field searches, 25 tracks, 19 building searches and 11 evidence searches. Recchi also assisted members of the Sheriff’s Emergency Response Team (SWAT). He deployed with the team during training scenarios and in tactical operations.

Recchi was also very well known in the community and was always a favorite at demonstrations because of his ability to put on an exciting energized demo. When at home, Recchi is a big part of the family where he is loved and spoiled. He is looking forward to retirement so he can enjoy more back rubs, carrying his Kong around, playing fetch, and swimming in the pool. He also will be spending the good life of retirement going to the beach and a lot more sun bathing on his deck down the shore.

K-9 Five served the Camden County Sheriff’s Office and the residents of Camden County with distinction from January 2017 until his retirement effective February 1st, 2024. Five’s regular tour of duty was in the patrol division.

Five began his patrol/explosives detection training with Sgt. Sean Smith at the John Sonny Burk K9 Academy from February 2017 until August of that same year. He was a cross trained Belgian Tervuren Malinois that could perform patrol functions, explosive searches, evidence recovery and tracking duties.

In June of 2021, Five was re-assigned to Officer Rauscher to continue his canine working career. During his tenure, Five was deployed 580 times assisting the Camden County Sheriff’s Office, local municipalities within Camden County, the surrounding counties as well as local, state and federal agencies including multijurisdictional Task Forces. He was responsible for 28 criminal arrests of offenders. He performed 418 explosive searches, 65 perimeter warrant service assists, 24 tracks, 18 building searches, 4 field searches and 23 evidence searches which resulted in locating 11 hand guns which were used in serious crimes. Five also assisted members of the Sheriff’s Emergency Response Team (SWAT). He deployed with the team during training scenarios and in tactical operations.

Five also assisted the New Jersey State Police, Detect and Render Safe Task Force. He assisted in numerous explosive sweeps, searches throughout the state for bomb threats, pre-planned events, sporting events and Homeland Security details. He also participated in large scale major events like the Philadelphia Eagles Super Bowl parade in 2018, the Army Navy game in 2021, dignitary protection details with the Secret Service, concert events, and the Miss America Pageants held in Atlantic City.

Five was also very well known in the community and was always a favorite at demonstrations because of his gentle affectionate side. When at home, Five is a big part of the family where he is loved and spoiled. He is looking forward to retirement so he can enjoy more belly rubs, carrying his ball around, playing fetch, and swimming in the pool. He also will be spending the good life of retirement going to the beach and a lot more sun bathing on his deck down the shore.

As Recchi and Five embark on their well-deserved retirement, we extend our heartfelt gratitude for their unwavering commitment to public safety and community service. We wish them both endless days of relaxation, play, and sunshine ahead!
