Following graduation from Mansfield University where she obtained a Bachelor of Science in Biology, Dr. Marissa Burns went on to pursue her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine. While working toward her degree, Dr. Burns was employed as a Client Service Representative and Veterinary Technician at an emergency hospital.

Dr. Burns' drive to pursue a career in veterinary medicine began at a very young age as she was inspired by her grandmother who bred boxers. Her grandmother introduced her to many aspects of veterinary medicine throughout her childhood which helped further develop her passion for animal well-being.

Dr. Burns finds the challenge of figuring out what each animal and person(s) requires to make the strongest bond and best health for the life of their pet the most satisfying about being a veterinarian. She says, "No one can replace the feeling of helping someone with his or her feathered, scaly, or furry pet."

Dr. Burns is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Association of Avian Veterinarians and the Pennsylvania Veterinary Medical Association. She has special interest in pocket pets, birds and canine and feline medicine.

At home, Dr. Burns enjoys spending time with her husband Tim, reading, kayaking, family, friends and gardening.
