Dr. Jane Jones
Dr. Jones grew up in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. From the age of 10, when she got her first cockatiel, followed a few years later by a bearded dragon, Dr. Jones was hooked on exotic animals and their care. During her undergraduate summers in Pittsburgh, Dr. Jones interned in the veterinary department of the National Aviary and also worked as a veterinary assistant in a private practice that treated exotic pets. These opportunities sealed her desire to become an avian and exotic veterinarian.
Dr. Jones received her VMD from the University of Pennsylvania in 2009. After a 1-year small animal rotating internship in Virginia, Dr. Jones moved to San Diego to complete a 3-year residency in avian medicine and surgery at the Avian & Exotic Animal Hospital. She then continued to work at the hospital as an Associate Veterinarian. Dr. Jones and her husband recently relocated to the Philadelphia area to be closer to family.
Dr. Jones has published articles in both the Journal of Zoo and Wildlife Medicine and The Veterinary Clinics of North America: Exotic Animal Practice. In San Diego, Dr. Jones enjoyed teaching veterinary students and interns as well as lecturing to avian and exotic animal interest and rescue groups in the community. Her areas of interest include avian and exotic preventative medicine and surgery. Dr. Jones is a member of the Association of Avian Veterinarians, the Association of Exotic Mammal Veterinarians, and the American Veterinary Medical Association.
Dr. Jones’ personal flock includes a husband, William, 2 dogs, Michaela and Cal, and 3 red crowned Amazon parrots, Ernie, Moe, and Chupa. In their free time Dr. Jones and her husband enjoy hiking, cooking, and exploring their new hometown!
