Behavior Consultation What to Expect

Low-Stress Approach

We will never intentionally provoke, frighten, or overwhelm your pet to observe their behavior. Instead, we work at your pet’s pace and may use treats, toys, and other appropriate positive reinforcement to help make the visit a comfortable experience.

If your pet is currently taking prescribed medications, please give them as usual on the day of the appointment, including any medications prescribed for anxiety or behavioral concerns. We do not need to see your pet stressed in order to understand that they are experiencing anxiety.

Physical Examination & Vaccination

A physical examination will be performed whenever possible. Medical conditions that may be contributing to or affecting your pet’s behavior will be considered and discussed as part of the evaluation.

Please ensure your pet’s rabies vaccination is current before the appointment. If the vaccination is not current and it is medically appropriate and safe to do so, Dr. Mukhina can administer the rabies vaccine during the appointment.

Household Members & Other Pets

We encourage as many household members as possible to attend the consultation so everyone involved can hear the recommendations, ask questions, and better understand the treatment plan.

Only the pet or pets scheduled for evaluation may attend the appointment. Please do not bring other household pets unless they are scheduled to be included in the behavioral evaluation. A separate intake form is required for each pet being evaluated.

For safety and handling purposes, each dog attending the same appointment must have a separate handler.
