Dr. Michelle McClain

Dr. Michelle McClain grew up in Wilmington, Delaware. Following graduation from the University of Delaware, Dr. McClain’s passion for animals led her to obtain her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Virginia-Maryland Regional Collage of Veterinary Medicine in 2003.

Dr. McClain’s inspiration to pursue her dream of becoming a veterinarian began with fond memories of her grandmother. "My grandmother was a nurse.  I was always interested in her stories about her work, and the medicine practiced.  At some point during high school, my interests gravitated towards veterinary medicine rather than human medicine,” Dr. McClain says.

Her professional interests include Emergency, Critical Care and Internal Medicine. She is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society and the Delaware Veterinary Medical Association. She believes the most satisfying part about being a veterinarian is being able to provide treatment that allows an animal to have good quality of life with his or her family, whether the time frame is a few days, a few months or several years.

At home Dr. McClain spends time with her husband Drew and enjoys reading, skiing, running, traveling and cooking. She has a retriever mix named Crouton and four cats: Paddy, Mickey, Frankie and Wheezy.
